Today at my unit’s daily accountability formation, my First Sergeant had everyone 20 years old and younger raise their hand. Only about 15% of the formation raised their hands. He took the time to point out that the Army is getting younger and younger and that a majority of the soldiers would have been too young or not even born yet to remember September 11, 2001 besides what is covered on TV news every year. Granted I was only 9 years old on September 11 but I am able to remember exactly where I was, who I was with, what I was doing, and how I found out about the two planes the crashed into The World Trade Center and the additional plane that crashed near the Pentagon.
Last year today, if you were to ask me what I thought I would be doing on September 11, 2013, I would have told you that I would be preparing to deploy to Afghanistan at the beginning of 2014 and how excited I was to go! I would have NEVER thought that I would be almost done with clearing Fort Drum about to be medically retired from the Army with just over 2 years in the service. So I just wanted to take the time to remember everyone that we have lost in NYC, Washington D.C., Iraq, and Afghanistan over the past 12 years! I also want to ask everyone to pray for my brothers and sisters in arms who will be in harms way in a little over 4 and a half months!
